What is art’s role in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution? Where is art headed? Will art use the development of technology as a tool, or will it be overwhelmed by machines? The exhibition that pushes to answer these questions will be held by Seoul Arts and CultureHub LA in downtown Los Angeles on Friday, February 9, 2018 at 7:00 pm. Details and RSVP here.

Digital Wonderland

The untouched, unattainable Utopia represented in media.

This space, provided by Maker City LA, will be transformed through the multimedia exhibition entitled 'Digital Wonderland,’ providing visitors an experience of futuristic arts such as augmented reality (AR), projection mapping, and media performance. In particular, it reinterprets the traditional folktale "SanHaeKyung (Mountain Sea Kingdom)", which deals with mythological characters and animals of the Korean culture using multimedias.

Digital Wonderland represents a 'utopia', the dream world. As far back as the strange country of Western Europe, there are a plethora of ideas including those of nature by Rousseau and of law by Plato describing an ideal utopia. It is important here to note the ideal utopia does not exist anywhere. Instead, it is dreamt endlessly on a continuous line of time and space similar to reality. How has this utopian world that has been alive for thousands of generations shifted in the people’s minds?  We hope this journey leads you to the once lost and forgotten Wonderland.

The exhibit, which was generously supported by the Korean Ministry of Education, first showcased at Namsan Arts Center (Seoul, South Korea) this past December for a 4 day exhibition. Professor Bo Sul Kim, director and producer of the exhibit, wanted to create art that was a marriage of Eastern beauty and modern technology in order to delve into the uncharted territory of ‘New Form Arts.’ The exhibit will be reproduced with students from Seoul Arts, CultureHub LA staff, and CSUN’s The Center for Visual Communication (Viscom).

We invite you to come join us for an evening of arts, music, and light refreshments.

There will be a special performance by Run River North and Raven Kwok. Run River North, a Korean-American band, will be featuring unreleased material from their forthcoming album, interacting in real-time generative visualization created by coder and visual artist Raven Kwok.

Presented by Seoul Arts, CultureHub LA, CSUN, and Viscom.
