Dongnang recognized the stagnant ethnic art as a vocation of the time, and devoted his
life to cultural art and theatre. Harden foundation with establishing The Theatre Art
Study Society(극예술연구회) in 1931, make the new scene of Korean Theatre with establishing
Drama Center and Korea Theatre Lab(한국연극연구소), attached Theatre Academy so today’s Seoul
Institute of the Art can exist.
“Art is the oldest cultural heritage of human beings. And we have our original ethnic
art, same as other ethnic groups over the world. But recently, we passed many days not
making any developments because of the lack of understanding in the unstable art
aspects. So unfortunately, Korean Art is in the lower rank among Asia 3 countries(Korea,
Japan, China).
So because of this, the main goal of establishing the Korea Art Research Center is to
overcome this backwardness and raise our ethnic art to a higher level.
To support it, we need multi-management in Art data and information at the same time.
The drama center, school, and library placed in the Korea Art Research Center(한국예술연구소),
will supplement themselves and manage these tasks. Many applicants and efficient
professors, artists are gathered, and also gathering. So I’m really looking forward to
seeing our bright future. This is my old dream and also every art partaker’s dream. I
really desire that this dream can be a stepping stone to rebuild our ethnic art.”
