Yoo Duk Hyung, the Honorary Chairman of the board, started with Seoul Institute of the Arts (Metier) College, which is the former Seoul Institute of Arts. He made “Modernization & Globalization of Ethnic Art Spirit” as a College Idea. To embody this idea in creative education, he made an education program that reflects the essence of time, place, rhythm, energy, light, gravity & zero-gravity through <Special Research> since 1980.

He was a chief art director and also a director in the experimental art field in the 1960s. And in 1968, he made a big wave in the Korean theater industry showing creative theatrical language which is dramatically anti-realism. He participated in the general meeting of ITI(International Theater Institute) in Moscow in 1973, as the first Korean. And in 1974, in New York Lamama ETC, he produced , and in the same year April, Seoul Institute of the Arts started.

“This century is in the hurricane of globalization. Everyday changes to the information-oriented society which cyber media loads because of the development of the ultramodern technology. Human beings find the path which is cultural and artistic, not only political and economic. We have been preparing for the combination of art and science since 1980. Including <Special Research>, we made a base system of combination of art and science, through a global culture hub, making connections worldwide. (...)This trial needs to change in two ways, “Specialized Education” and “Globalization”. This time is the time that we should shout out our spirit of Dongnang, and also reveal our Speciality. Now we need to discover our heritage of spirit and value, not only material things, using them for time and place in modern science.“

<Specialization and Globalization of Seoul Institute of Arts>,2012, Yoo Duk Hyung

“Peter Brook, he tried the new form of play for the last 3 years, but his play couldn’t settle down even though its techniques were great. But , which Yoo Duk Hyung produced, settled on a new form of play.”

<ITI(International Theater Institute) America Branch, 1974.02.23. Kyunghyang Newspaper>

“His emergence was in itself a major transformation in Korean theater history. Yoo's directing is a reflection on the existing theatrical expression and a new awareness of the meaning and content of life gained from it, and it shows another level of experimentation that maximizes the semi-realist style.”
<An Issue and reflection about Korean Plays>,Play Critic, Han Sang Cheol

The Seoul Institute of Arts plays the role of promoting K-culture and globalization, producing a large number of talented individuals in the fields of Public Art and Literature through its unique, field-connected education system.
