Lady Sim Jae Soon, born at Janggyo-dong, Seoul on July 11, 1908.
Her father is Sim Kyu Sup(son of Sim Sang Hoon, the Minister of Interior in Emperor Kojong) and Lady Han Jin Ho(daughter of Han Kyu Sul, political secretary in the late Joseon Dynasty) as a mother. Lady Sim finished Sookmyung Women’s School and through Ewha Women’s College, graduated Tokyo Women’s School of Fine Arts.
Lady Sim Jae Soon was a unique Modern Woman. Highly educated person, born in a noble family, through Sookmyung and Ewha, graduated from Tokyo Women’s School of Fine Arts.
She was such a talented writer. Her play “People Living in Fleeing” won the Annual Spring Literary Contest in Chosun News, and it was the start of theatrical life that led to the marriage with Dongnang Yoo Chi Jin.
After marrying Dongnang Yoo Chi Jin, she gave up every chance to flower her talent in art, and devoted her life and property for Dongnang to flower his talent. In 1947, After the independence, helping Yoo Chi Jin to establish Theatre Art Association and building Drama Center with their whole property in 1958 with his husband represents her passion of Theatre.
Lady Sim Jae Soon just helped Yoo Chi Jin to concentrate in the Drama Center and Seoul Theatre School(Now Seoul Institute of the Arts) with her great patience.
Lady Sim Jae Soon, before she passed away in September 1990(after Dongnang passed away), elected as a chairman of the board in Seoul Arts College and Korea Art Research Center, formed the foundation for them. Also she contributed to the development of Korean Cultural Art.
People will remember her as an ideal Korean woman with her graceful dignity and smile.
